Greensward provides a wide range of activities outside of the curriculum for our students. Many of these are organised and led by staff giving freelly of their own time and we encourage every student to take advantage of these excellent opportunities.
Extra Curricular Activities
Greensward offers a multitude of extra curricular activities before school, during the lunch break and after school. Whether you are sporty, dramatic, artistic, scientific, mathematical or linguistic or are simply looking for revision sessions, there will be something to suit you. Many activities are organised and led by staff giving freely of their own time and we encourage all students to take advantage of these excellent opportunities. Our programme of activities for this term can be viewed here.
Drama
The school has a wealth of talent amongst the students and staff. Whether involved in the cast, crew, sound and lighting or orchestra under the creative direction of our dedicated Drama and Music Department staff, each year the school puts on an outstanding musical theatre performance. In the past few years, the students have starred in Annie, School of Rock, High School Musical and Matilda. From the lights, to the sound, the music, the choreography, the set and the acting, everybody plays an important part to make these productions such a tremendous success.
The drama department offers many opportunities for any student who has a love of the subject not only in lessons but also through their extra curricular clubs.
Duke of Edinburgh
The Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme is the world’s leading achievement award for young people, and is highly regarded by universities, colleges and employers. It encourages young people to develop independence, commitment, leadership and teamwork through being involved in a personalised programme of activities. The award is split into four sections; volunteering, physical, skill and expedition and it takes approximately six months to complete all the required various activities. Three of the sections need to be completed in your own time; these are the volunteering, physical and skill sections of the award (each of these requires a three month commitment, plus an additional three months in any one section). An important element of the award is the expedition. This involves two camping and walking expeditions; one will be a training expedition and the other a qualifying expedition. The award is designed to challenge you to become more independent and develop a range of skills which are valued by employers. You will participate in one training lesson a week working towards achieving each section of the course. Training will be given on first aid, navigation, leadership and camp craft.Further information on the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme can be found at http://www.dofe.org/.
